AFL-CIO President on Supreme Court Ruling: ‘A Slap In The Face of Every Worker In This Country’

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler issued the following statement on the Supreme Court ruling allowing President Trump’s firing of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) members to stand:

The Supreme Court’s decision is a gift to union-busting CEOs and a slap in the face of every worker in this country. By ignoring precedent and allowing President Trump’s unjust, anti-worker firings of NLRB and MSPB Members to continue, the Court undermines workers’ ability to organize, collectively bargain, and demand their rights on the job. This ruling overturns the critical and centuries-long independence of federal agencies, leaving workers and consumers at the mercy of political whims of the executive branch. Working people deserve a fair shot to join and form unions under the law. Today, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court turned its back on workers to give even more power to politicians and wealthy CEOs.
