AFL-CIO: House Vote to Extend ACA Credits Shows Power of Working People
AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass a clean extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax subsidies:
Today’s vote to extend the ACA tax credits happened because working people refused to accept another price hike engineered by President Trump and his congressional allies. Extending the ACA tax credits will save 130,000 health care jobs and stop a massive price hike in health care costs at a time when working people are already being squeezed by rising costs.
For months, working people have made clear that we won’t accept higher health care costs, lost jobs or bare-bones coverage dressed up as a solution to politicians’ self-imposed crisis.
This vote, closely following the bipartisan passage of the Protect America’s Workforce Act in the House, proves that when workers stand together we can build a successful and bipartisan coalition to protect working families. We commend the Republican and Democratic leaders who stood with workers and voted to stop this health care price hike.
